Not sure if this is the right fix? We've added this issue to our memory dump diagnostic which can confirm.

Support for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) ends on July 12, 2011. To continue receiving security updates for Windows, make sure you're running Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (SP2). For more information, refer to this Microsoft web page: Support is ending for some versions of Windows.

Symptoms

You have a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. If you press a key when a console application is exiting, the computer may crash. When this issue occurs, you receive the following Stop error message on a blue screen:

STOP 0x000000F4 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

Notes

  • The four parameters in this error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all the "Stop 0x000000F4" error messages are caused by this issue.

Cause

The issue occurs because of an access violation that happens when the Csrss.exe process tries to access a freed console structure. Then the Csrss.exe process stops unexpectedly and the computer crashes.

    SR_Level

    Service branch

    6.0.600 1. 22xxx

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008

    SP1
