Symptoms

When you try to import images from a TWAIN device in the 64-bit edition of Microsoft Office 2010, the operation is unsuccessful.Note A TWAIN device can be a camera or a scanner, for example..

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update:

2687297 Description of the Office 2010 hotfix package (Mso-x-none.msp): June 26, 2012 Note This hotfix enables only the 64-bit edition of Office 2010 to import images from TWAIN devices.

Registry key information

Fix it for me

To enable the hotfix automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Notes

  • Install the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2687297 before you run this Fix it solution

  • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

  • If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Then, go to the "Did this fix the problem?" section.

Let me fix it myself

After you install the hotfix package, follow these steps to enable the hotfix:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

  4. Type TwainDevices, and then press Enter.

  5. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\TwainDevices

  6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.

  7. Type UseTwainDSMDllOnX64, and then press Enter.

  8. Right-click UseTwainDSMDllOnX64, and then click Modify.

  9. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

  10. Exit Registry Editor.
