Symptoms

When you use Advanced DMA 2 (ADMA2) host controller implementation for the Secure Digital (SD) card bus driver(Sdbus.sys) on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, a buffer alignment error may occur. Additionally, Device Manager displays the following:

  • A yellow exclamation mark on the controller

  • Error code 10

Cause

This issue occurs because the alignment of the data buffer that is provided by the function driver (4-byte aligned) for ADMA2 transfer does not match the specification of the SD card bus driver (8-byte aligned). Therefore, the driver fails, and error code 10 is displayed in Device Manager.

  • GDR service branches contain only those fixes that are widely released to address widespread, very important issues. LDR service branches contain hotfixes in addition to widely released fixes.

  • The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 R2 and for Windows 7" section. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
