Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You configure a mailbox size limit in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment.

  • You change some Microsoft Outlook Web App configuration settings for a user’s mailbox that is full. For example, you run the Set-MailboxMessageConfiguration -Identity mailbox -ReadReceiptResponse alwaysSend cmdlet for the user’s mailbox.

  • The user tries to log on to the mailbox by using Outlook Web App for the first time.

In this scenario, the user cannot log on to the mailbox and receives the following error message:

You've exceeded the storage limit for your mailbox. Delete some items from your mailbox.

Additionally, because the user cannot log on to the mailbox, the user cannot delete email messages. Therefore, the user cannot reduce the size of the mailbox.

Cause

This issue is caused by a QuotaExceededException exception that occurs if the IPM.Configuration.OWA.UserOptions object exists when Outlook Web App tries to save the Outlook Web App configuration settings of a user whose mailbox is full.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2685289 Description of Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2

Workaround
