ISSUE

When you search for emails in your mailbox, the search results may include items older than the ‘Download email for the past’ setting in your mailbox.

When using Outlook Desktop in cached mode you can't move items older than the "Download email for the past" setting either by drag-and-drop or right-click and move.

STATUS: WORKAROUND

This issue is a design limitation with service search, and it is on the backlog for future fix consideration. The scope of work to address it is beyond a hotfix so will need feature level work to address. We will update this topic when this gets scheduled for a solution.

In the meantime, you can use the following workarounds:

  1. Set the Cached Mode Sync Slider or Download email for the past: to ALL, Only a subset of items are synchronized in shared mailboxes or public folders in Outlook 2016.

  2. Set the policy registry key for DisableServerAssistedSearch to 1 which forces Outlook to use local Windows Desktop Search, How Outlook 2016 utilizes Exchange Server 2016 FAST Search.
