Fill in the Blanks in Learning Activities uses AI to generate exercises where key words are removed from your content. Learners practice by dragging the correct words into the blanks.
Create a Fill in the Blanks activity

In Learning Activities, select + New Activity > Fill in the Blanks.

Add your learning content. You can:

Paste text directly into the content window.

Select + Add Content to upload files from your device or add cloud files from OneDrive.
Supported file types: Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoints, and text files. Content must be between 240 and 50,000 characters.

Select your language.

Choose your content format:

Allow AI to edit content for exercises — AI may rephrase or restructure your text to create better exercises.

Use text as entered — Exercises use your original text exactly as written.

Choose your difficulty:
-
Easy — Fewer blanks, shorter exercises.
-
Medium — Balanced complexity.
-
Challenging — More blanks, longer exercises.

Select Generate.
Review and edit exercises
After generating, you can review and customize your exercises before saving.

Edit an exercise — Select any exercise to edit the paragraph text.
-
Edit blanks — Choose which words become blanks, and add or remove distractor words.

Add or delete exercises — Add more exercises or remove ones you don't need.

Edit the title — Select the auto-generated title at the top to rename your activity.
Enhance with AI
Use the Enhance with AI panel on the right to describe changes you'd like. You can also change the content format and difficulty from here.
Preview your activity
Select Preview Activity to see how the exercises will look during practice.
Save your activity
Select Save Activity when you're happy with your exercises.

Students go directly into practicing.

Educators go to the activity overview page.
Practice Fill in the Blanks
When practicing, you see a paragraph with blanks and a set of words to choose from:

Read the paragraph and find the blanks.

Drag and drop words into the correct blanks.

Once all blanks are filled, select Check to see your results.

Review which blanks you got right and which ones you missed. You can also select Show answers to reveal the correct words.

Select Continue to move to the next exercise.
View your results
After completing all exercises, you see a summary of the blanks you solved and the ones you missed.
View insights (educators only)
On the activity overview page, educators can see:

Students started — How many students have begun the activity.

Students completed — How many have finished.
-
Average score — The average across all students.
-
Challenging blanks — Blanks that students struggled with most.
Share your activity
Select Share from the overview page or the three-dot menu (⋯) on the home screen.

Join code — Share this code with others. They enter it using the Join button on the home screen.

Share link — Copy a direct link to share with anyone.
