Symptoms

Assume that you install the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012 R2. When the domain controller is under a heavy load, it crashes.

Cause

This issue occurs because AD DS encounters an exception when the server is at low memory during the execution of the ntdsai.dll file. Therefore, the recovery of the Lsass.exe process is not successful, and the domain controller crashes.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the November 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
