Symptoms

This issue may occur on a computer that was built by an OEM that uses the November 2014 full media refresh image of Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

Note This application is usually used only by IT administrators to manage computers that are running Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry. It does not have a useful function for typical end-users of non-Embedded versions of Windows.

Resolution

Although the Embedded Lockdown Manager has no harmful effects, it is not useful and may be a distraction to users. Therefore, we have released an update that now will automatically remove this program from the affected computers that were built by using the November 2014 full media refresh image of Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. This update is available from Windows Update.

Note If you want to reinstall the Embedded Lockdown Manager application, you can download Embedded Lockdown Manager from the Microsoft Download Center. If you want, you can also use this link to see more information about the application and the functions that it performs.
