Spotlight is the search functionality built into macOS devices, which shows information drawn from various locations on the local device, from installed apps, and from Bookmarks & History on the Safari browser. Up until now, for users using other browsers, this search function had limited use. Now, though, your Favorites and History from Microsoft Edge will be available in Spotlight too!
This capability will be enabled by default for all users signed in with their Microsoft account. You don’t need to be signed in or syncing to use this capability. You can disable this anytime; to do so, do the following:
-
In Microsoft Edge, select More > Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services.
-
Set Share browsing data with other macOS features to Off.
The second switch in the image above ensures that search results open only in the Edge profile in which they were pulled from. (This is useful in order to keep work and personal profiles separate, for example.) If it is turned off, search results will open in the last active browser window, no matter which profile is signed in to it at the time.
We hope this change makes it easier than ever for you to find what you were looking for. Please share your feedback with us!
Note: History or Favorite items deleted from the browser are cleared from Spotlight search as well. This can take up to 12 hours to be reflected on its own; to see these changes sooner, restart your browser.
