Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010 on a computer that is running one of the following operating systems:

    • Windows 7

    • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

    • Windows Server 2008 R2

    • Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

  • You use the AS2 Decoder to decrypt an encrypted message that is larger than 5 megabytes (MB).

In this scenario, the AS2 Decoder cannot decode the message.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a known issue in the CryptMsgUpdate function.

Resolution

Hotfix Information

To resolve this issue, apply the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2480994.   For more information about BizTalk hotfixes, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

2480994 "ASN1 out of memory" error when the CryptMsgUpdate function decodes a message that is larger than 5 MB in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
