Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 to run some load tests.

  • You use Microsoft Office Excel 2010 to try to create an Excel load test report.

In this scenario, you may receive the following error message in Excel 2010 when the report for a counter is generated:

The Maximum number of data series per chart is 255

Additionally, the reports for the other counters that are selected are not generated.

Note This issue occurs when a chart of the report contains more than 255 data series.

Resolution

After you apply the following hotfix, all the reports can be generated. However, the charts that contain more than 255 data series are blank.

To apply this hotfix, you must have Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed.

Restart requirement

You have to restart Excel after you apply this hotfix.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Workaround

To work around this issue, collapse the data fields of the report in Excel 2010, or select less than 255 data series.
