Use SQL Server Profiler in SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 or 2014 to trace database events in Dynamics SL

This article describes how to use Microsoft SQL Server Profiler in Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, and Microsoft SQL Server 2012 to trace database events in Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and later versions.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008

To use SQL Server Profiler in SQL Server 2008 to trace database events in Microsoft Dynamics SL, follow these steps:

  1. Download, and then save the KB967955_SQL2008.tdf file on the desktop of the computer that is running SQL Server 2008.

    The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Dynamics File Exchange Server:

    KB967955_SQL2008.tdf
    Release Date: February 16, 2009

    Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

  2. Double-click the KB967955_SQL2008.tdf file, and then click OK when you receive the following message:

    SQL Server Profiler - File C:\Documents and Setting\username\Desktop\KB967955_SQL2008.tdf was imported successfully

  3. On the File menu, click New Trace.

  4. Connect to the server that is hosting the Microsoft Dynamics SL databases.

  5. On the General tab, select KB967955_SQL2008 (user) in the Use the template: box, and then click Run.

  6. On the File menu, click Pause Trace.

  7. Start Microsoft Dynamics SL. Run Microsoft Dynamics SL to the point before the event that you want to trace.

  8. Switch to SQL Server Profiler, on the File menu, click Run Trace.

  9. Run Microsoft Dynamics SL until you complete the event that you want to trace.

  10. Switch to SQL Server Profiler, on the File menu, click Stop Trace.

    Note

    You can view the trace results on screen. You can also save the trace results to a file. You can then send the file to Technical Support for Microsoft Dynamics SL.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

To use SQL Server Profiler in SQL Server 2008 R2 to trace database events in Microsoft Dynamics SL, follow these steps:

  1. Download, and then save the KB967955_SQL2008R2.tdf file on the desktop of the computer that is running SQL Server 2008 R2.

    The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Dynamics File Exchange Server:

To use SQL Server Profiler in SQL Server 2012 to trace database events in Microsoft Dynamics SL, follow these steps:

  1. Download, and then save the SLSupport_SQL2012.tdf file on the desktop of the computer that is running SQL Server 2012.

    The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Dynamics File Exchange Server:

    SLSupport_SQL2012.tdf
