Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.

Symptoms

You receive the following incorrect error message in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS) when you run an UPDATE CUBE statement on a calculated measure or on a calculated member:

Executing the queryInternal error: An unexpected exception occurred.Execution complete

Additionally, a mini-dump file may be generated in the SSAS log folder.Notes

  • If you run an UPDATE CUBE statement on calculated members in a cube, you receive the following error message and no dump file is generated:

Executing the queryErrors in cell writeback: The cell writeback operation has a calculated member as current coordinate, which is not allowed.Execution complete

  • A writeback operation is not supported on the calculated measure or on the calculated member.

Cause

This issue occurs because SSAS does not check the calculated measure. Therefore, SSAS does not return the correct error message.
