Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008 fix release.Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You add an XML Source task in a data flow of a SQL Server 2005 (SSIS 2005) Integration Services, a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Integration Services (SSIS 2008) package or a SQL Server 2008 R2 (SSIS 2008 R2) Integration Services.

  • You configure the XML Source task to use an XML file and an XML schema file (XSD). The XML file contains some invalid data that is based on the schema definition.

  • You try to redirect the error output of the XML Source task to handle the invalid data.

  • You run the package.

In this scenario, the package fails before the error output is redirected, and an exception occurs. For example, the LeaseRentStartDate column is defined in the xs:date type by using an XSD file that contains the following:

<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="LeaseRentStartDate" type="xs:date" />

However, an XML file contains the following data that is formatted incorrectly:

<LeaseRentStartDate><Time></LeaseRentStartDate>

In this scenario, the package run fails before the error output is redirected, and you receive an error message that resembles the following:

[XML Source [3198]] Error: The component "XML Source" (3198) failed attempting to write data to output column "LeaseRentStartDate" (4036) on output "LEASE Error Output" (3668). The string ‘<Time>' is not a valid AllXsd value.

Cause

This issue occurs because the XML Source task incorrectly performs a second parse of the column value that is based on the data type. Therefore, an exception occurs.
