Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.
Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You create a newsletter-style report in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008).
-
You define at least two columns in the report. One of the columns has a text box.
-
The length of the value in the text box is very long, and the value extends to another column.
-
You try to display the report by using a hard-page-break renderer in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) or in the report server web service.
Note The following are hard-page-break renderer formats:-
PDF
-
TIFF
-
Print/Print Layout/Print Preview

In this scenario, the report is not displayed correctly. Additionally, you may encounter one of the following issues:

If you use PDF, TIFF, or Print Layout to display the report, the column that contains the text box displays no values.

If you use Print or Print Preview to display the report, you receive the following error message:
An error occurred during local report processing. Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length
An error occurred trying to renderer the report. (0x80004005)
Note This issue does not occur in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008 R2).

2402659 The SQL Server 2008 builds that were released after SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 was released Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
Status
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
