Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008) report that uses Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008) data sources.

  • You open a dataset, and then you open the query designer.

  • You click OK or Cancel in the query designer.

In this scenario, you may see the following error message appear:

Query Preparation is in Process. To cancel, press and hold CTRL+C for at least half a second.

This message window stays for a long time, even if you try to cancel it.

Note This issue occurs in both Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS 2008) and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Report Builder.
