This hotfix also applies to Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Analysis Services (SSAS 2014).

Symptoms

Assume that you are using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Service (SSAS 2008 R2) or SQL Server 2012 Analysis Service (SSAS 2012), or SQL Server 2014 Analysis Service (SSAS 2014) on a computer. When you use theĀ Convert to Partition dialog box to convert the data in a partition's writeback table to a partition, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) throws an unexpected exception.

Note:

  • You can access Convert to Partition dialog box by right-clicking the writeback table for a write-enabled partition on the Partitions tab in Cube Designer.

  • The issue occurs regardless of whether the writeback table is empty or has data in it.

  • Deleting and recreating the writeback partition did not resolve the problem.

Cause

The issue occurs because of a regression in SQL Server that changes the initialization settings used when dimension is added to a cube.
