Symptoms

When you use Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Management Studio to connect to an instance of SQL Server on Windows Azure, the connection fails and you receive the following error message:

The remote name could not be resolved: 'xxx.xxx.windows.net' (System)

Note The error message has "windows.net" as the DNS suffix.
