Symptoms

Assume that you use Microsoft SQL Server 2012 non-English version. When you install SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Cumulative Update 2 (CU2), the SQL Writer component is patched incorrectly. The setup procedure does not detect the SQL Writer installation, and you receive the following messages in Details.txt:

(01) <Date><Time> Slp: Package ID SqlWriter_Cpu64: NotInstalled
(01) <Date><Time> Slp: Patch Id: KB2983175_SqlWriter_Cpu64 - The baseline msi is not installed. The patch package is ignored.
(01) <Date><Time> Slp: Patch Id: KB2983175_SqlWriter_Cpu64 - Detail description of this patch package is: PatchId=KB2983175_SqlWriter_Cpu64 PatchVersion=11.2.5548.0 BaselinePackageId=SqlWriter_Cpu64 BaselineVersion=11.2.5058.0; PatchFileName=SqlWriter.msp PatchCode={33295EAB-AEEA-4012-AF9B-0D3A092F5FEB}


Note

  • After the installation, the version of the sqlwriter.exe file is 11.0.5058.0 that is SP2 version. However, it should be 11.0.5548.0 that is SP2 CU2 version.

  • The issue also occur in SQL Server 2014.

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
