Symptoms

When an Analysis Services project is incrementally deployed to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1, the instance shuts down unexpectedly.

This problem is related to dimension processing. It occurs only if the following conditions are true:

  • The dimension already exists and is in a processed state.

  • In the processing request, you have structural changes to the dimension in which changes to a role affect dimension access.



Resolution

This problem was first fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:

Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1

Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2014 SP2

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Workaround

To temporarily work around this problem, make sure that at least one of the conditions that are listed in the "Symptoms" section is not true.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
