Assume that you have a server that is running SQL Server 2016. When you run the sys.dm_db_column_store_row_group_physical_stats query to search columnstore indexes in the current database, the query may take a long time to return the results.

This issue occurs because the sys.dm_db_column_store_row_group_physical_stats query does a join with the sys.column_store_segments view, which is expensive. After you install this update, this view is replaced with the syscscolsegments view to retrieve the needed information.

This update is included in Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1.

Each new build for SQL Server 2016 contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were included in the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for SQL Server 2016.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
