Symptoms

In SQL Server 2016, you apply a changeset to remove audit calls (such as for permission checks) that trigger asserts when you create or drop external tables. However, when you create or drop external tables, additional asserts may occur during new audit calls.

Resolution

The update that fixes this issue is included in Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1.

Each new build for SQL Server 2016 contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for SQL Server 2016.
