Consider the following scenario:
You run Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2016 on the same virtual machine.
You install Cumulative Update 10 (CU10) for SQL Server 2016 SP1.
You try to use Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS)-based applications to back up the database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
In this scenario, you may notice VSS application fails to make a backup, and you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
