Latest updates for versions of Office that use Windows Installer (MSI)

This article describes update KB2956148 for Microsoft Office 2013 that was released on March 10, 2015. This update also applies to Office Home and Student 2013 RT. This update has a prerequisite.

Please be aware that the update in Download Center applies to Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2013. It does not apply to the Office 2013 Click-to-Run editions such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?).

Improvements and Fixes

Fixes the following performance issues that might occur when you open a PowerPoint presentation that contains many large CMYK JPEG images in PowerPoint 2013:

  • It takes longer than expected to open the presentation.

  • It takes longer than expected to switch between the slides in Normal or Slide Show view.

  • The thumbnails on the navigation pane may display a red X.

Note After you install this update, you can improve the performance by compressing the CMYK JPEG images by using the Compress Pictures feature on the Picture Tools Format contextual tab.
