Symptoms

The Print dialog box may become unresponsive when using the borderless print option in Windows 10. For example, consider the following scenario:

  1. Install a printer that supports borderless printing.

  2. Open an application that uses the Modern Print user interface (for example, Microsoft Photos, Microsoft Maps, or Microsoft Edge).

  3. Select Print.

  4. Under "More settings," select a Paper size that does not support borderless printing (such as Legal or Envelope #10). Click OK, and then click OK again, if necessary, to go back to the main Print dialog box.

  5. Click More settings. Note that the "Borderless printing" option is now hidden.

  6. Select a Paper size that supports borderless printing (such as 4x7 or Letter). Click OK to go back to the main Print dialog box.

  7. Click More settings. Note that "Borderless printing" is now available. Set Borderless printing to "On." Click OK, and then click OK again to return to the main Print dialog box.

  8. Click More settings.

  9. Select a Paper size that doesn't support borderless printing.

In this scenario, you will see "<Printer default value>" in the Borderless printing field, and the OK button is not available (doesn't respond). Closing the Print dialog via the close box in the upper-right corner of the window returns you to the application.

Note There are other variations of this scenario that may result in the same behavior, in which one or more of the settings appear as "<Printer default value>," and the Print dialog box becomes unresponsive.
