Note: The Cortana service integration in the Harman Kardon Invoke speaker concluded in early 2021.
Windows 10
Before you can set up and control your speaker with your PC or mobile device, you need to make sure that you're running the latest version of Windows 10.
To update your Windows software:
-
Select the Start button, then select Settings .
-
Select Update and Security > Check for updates.
Once your PC is up to date, you can begin setup using the Cortana Device Setup app (version v. 1.6.79.0 or later) from Microsoft Store or by following these steps:
-
Open Cortana.
-
Open the menu in the top left Cortana and then select Settings.
-
Under Hardware select Surface Headphones, Invoke speaker & Cortana on Alexa.
-
Select + Add a device and then follow the set up instructions.
If you're using an earlier version of Cortana follow these steps:
-
Open Cortana.
-
On the left-side menu, select the Devices icon.
-
Follow the instructions.
Only one Microsoft account can be paired with a speaker at a time. To change the Microsoft account paired with a speaker, re-set the speaker and repeat the set-up process with the desired Microsoft account.
Reset my Invoke
The reset instructions are only for Invoke speakers that have not yet received the firmware update that removes the Cortana service from your Invoke. To learn more about the firmware update and how to check if your speaker has received the update see, Cortana service on the Harman Kardon Invoke.
If there’s a problem setting up your Invoke, or your Invoke is unresponsive after completing the set up process, you can usually resolve the problem by resetting your device.
To reset your Invoke:
-
Press and hold the Microphone button for 5 seconds until you hear Cortana say, “Ready for setup. We'll do this from Cortana App from your phone or PC, so go grab that first. Then type, setup my Invoke.”
-
If that doesn’t work, you can try a factory reset. Left of the Microphone button, there's a pinhole factory reset button. Insert a small pin into the hole and briefly press against the button. You'll know the reset started when you see two spinning white lights on the touch surface. Once it's complete, three white lights will appear and Cortana will say, "Ready for setup."
