Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install one of the following products:

    • Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 Beta

    • Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 Release Candidate

    • Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 Evaluation

  • You upgrade the product to a retail version of Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2010.

  • You try to start Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

In this scenario, you experience one of the following issues:

  • Issue 1SQL Server Management Studio does not start, and you receive an error message that resembles the following:

    Evaluation Period has expired. For information on how to upgrade your evaluation software please go to...

  • Issue 2SQL Server Management Studio starts. If you click About on the Help menu, you receive the following message:

    SQL management tool will expire in <number> day

Cause

This issue occurs because SQL Server Management Tools are not upgraded in the upgrade to System Center Data Protection Manager 2010.
