It may take longer than expected (30 to 200 seconds) for PnP (Plug and Play) to remove a disk drive that fails or is no longer attached to your operating system.
Cause
This issue occurs because Storport inspects a stale ScsiStatus field in the SCSI_REQUEST_BLOCK (SRB) to retry I/O requests. This occurs even if the miniport sets the SrbStatus field to SRB_STATUS_SELECTION_TIMEOUT that indicates the device is no longer present.
Resolution
The hotfix makes sure that Storport correctly interprets the SrbStatus. To obtain this update, install the November 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Status
Microsoft has confirmed that this is an update for the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
