Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and the Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 on a computer.

  • You try to publish customized updates to the computer by using System Center Updates Publisher (SCUP) or by using┬áSystem Center Configuration Manager 2012 Beta.

In this scenario, the publishing process fails. Additionally, you receive the following message:

at Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.BaseApi.Publisher.PublishPackage(String sourcePath, String additionalSourcePath, String packageDirectoryName)
at Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.BaseApi.Publisher.PublishPackage(String sourcePath, String packageDirectoryName)

Cause

This issue occurs because an unexpected exception occurs in WSUS 3.0 SP2.
