Text in a <span> tag is not aligned correctly in Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

Internet Explorer 10 is installed on a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.
You use a web-based application to dynamically change text in a <span> tag on a page.
You use a script to align the text.
You view the page in Standards mode in Internet Explorer 10.

In this scenario, the text is not aligned correctly.

This issue occurs because the text-align values in the <span> tag are not calculated.

To resolve this issue, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to the following Microsoft website:
