There are some workflow scenarios in which you may roam your Office Document Cache across devices, such as using remote desktop software to access a server.  However, when you're roaming the Office Document Cache across devices, you may encounter errors such as the following:

  • Cannot obtain access to file

  • The file name or path does not exist

  • The file is being used by another program

  • The file you are trying to save has the same name as the currently open file

  • We cannot open the file

Office does not support roaming your Office Document Cache between machines and we strongly advise against attempting it.
