This article explains how you can store, access, and edit passwords and passkeys stored in the Microsoft Password Manager.

Note: Microsoft Password Manager in Edge is only available if you sign in with a personal account profile. If you sign in with a work or school account, your IT Admin may restrict access to certain features.

How to store passwords and passkeys in the Microsoft Password Manager

When you enter a password on a website for the first time, you will be prompted to save the password.

The password is stored securely and can be reused on any device where you sign in to Edge using your Microsoft account.

When you create a passkey, you will be prompted to save it, and can choose to save to your device or a credential manager.

How to find the Microsoft Password Manager in Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge  Microsoft Edge icon and ensure your profile belongs to a Microsoft personal account.Screenshot showing the profile icon in Microsoft Edge

  2. Select the three dots  in the top right corner next to your profile image and then  Settings.

  3. Select ​​​​​​​ Passwords and autofill then select  Microsoft Password Manager.

  4. Next to the password you want to view or change, select the right arrow, ​​​​​​​

    Note: You may need to enter your device PIN or password.

    1. To view the existing password, select the eye icon,  Eye icon

    2. To change the password, select Edit, make your changes, then select Save. ​​​​​​​ Edit Password dialog box

      Important: Changing the password in Microsoft Edge doesn't change the password for the website. You'll need to ensure that the password stored in Microsoft Edge matches the password you've set for the website.

How to find the Microsoft Password Manager in Windows Settings

Notes: 

  • Microsoft Password Manager is only available in Windows Settings once you have signed in to Microsoft Edge with a personal account profile. 

  • If you sign in with a work or school account, your IT Admin may restrict access to certain features.

Once you have signed in to Edge using your personal account, you can access passkeys stored in Microsoft Password Manager in the Windows Settings app  

  1. Open Windows Settings, select Accounts > Passkeys > Advanced options. or use this shortcut: ​​​​​​​Passkeys
