Symptoms
In Windows Server 2008-based or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based systems, if the system partition is a mirrored volume, and a system-critical issue occurs, the following behavior occurs:

A blue screen is not displayed.
-
A memory dump file is not generated.
Additionally, the following event is logged in the System log:
Cause
This problem occurs because the Crashdmp.sys driver checks whether the volume of the system partition is supported when it is loaded. However, the Crashdmp.sys driver performs an incorrect check when the system partition is a mirrored volume. Therefore, the Crashdmp.sys driver identifies the mirrored volume as an unsupported volume.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
To apply this hotfix on Windows Vista-based computers, you must have Windows Vista SP1 installed.

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

File information
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes
The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and MUM files (.mum) installed for each environment are listed separately. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component.
