Native frames are missing in the call stack when you debug a mixed mode C++/CLI application in Visual Studio 2010

Applies to: Visual Studio 2010

Symptoms

You debug a mixed mode C++/CLI application that targets to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. When the debugger hits a breakpoint, you notice that some native frames are missing in the call stack.

Cause

This problem occurs because of an issue in the detection of thunks in common language runtime (CLR) 4.0 when the debugger unwinds the stack.

Thunks are used for transition between native code and managed code.
