FIX: Concurrent inserts against tables with columnstore indexes may cause queries to hang in SQL Server

When you use Microsoft SQL Server 2016 SP2 CU8 or later versions, you notice that it takes a long time to complete the concurrent inserts against tables that have columnstore indexes. Additionally, the transaction log may grow abnormally when these insert statements are run.


Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

To work around the issue, follow these steps:
  1. Abort the insert queries to prevent the abnormal growth of transaction logs.
  2. Restrict the number of times that you issue select queries against tables that have a columnstore index and highly concurrent insert activity.
