Get the best experience from your Surface Earbuds by keeping them up to date with the latest improvements. To install updates for your Surface Earbuds, use the Surface app.

  1. Set up your Surface Earbuds in the Surface app. Learn how

  2. Take your earbuds out of the charging case to connect.

  3. Open the Surface app, then select Surface Earbuds.

  4. Select Device information, and under Firmware update, see if any updates are available. If an update is available, select Update using Bluetooth.
    The update can take up to 15 minutes to download and install. You won’t be able to use your earbuds to make calls or listen to music while the update is in progress.
    You can check to see if updates are available anytime in the Surface app.

  2. Take your earbuds out of the charging case to connect.

  3. In the Surface app, tap Account > Surface Earbuds.

  4. Tap Device information, then look to see if an update is available. If an update is available, select Update now.
    The update can take about 15 minutes or so to download and install on Android and about an hour on an iOS device. You won’t be able to use your earbuds to make calls or listen to music while the update is in progress. You’ll get a notification when the update is complete. You can check to see if updates are available anytime.

Update the charging case

To keep your earbuds and charging case working their best, you might need to update the charging case at some time. To do this, you’ll need to use the Surface app for Windows 10/11 and the USB cable that came with your Surface Earbuds.

On a Windows 10/11 PC

  1. Plug the USB cable into your PC and plug the USB-C end into the USB-C port on the back of the charging case.

  2. Open the Surface app, then select Surface Earbuds.

  3. Select Device information, and under Update your charging case, select Update case if an update is available.
    This button appears when an update is available

  4. Keep the USB cable plugged in and follow the instructions.
