Sometimes the connector between Salesforce and Excel doesn't work, even though the connector works in Power BI. While we work on a solution, try this:

Important: Please note this is not a recommend change for all users. This solution only works for web HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (HKLM), not HKEY_CURRENT_USER (HKCU).

This article contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious issues may occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, please read How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

For more information on registry subkeys, please read How to add, modify, or delete registry subkeys and values by using a .reg file

Note: Changing a value in the registry could cause issues with Excel plugins and add-ins. If changing the subkey value below causes issues, try this.

  1. Select the Start button, search for "registry", and select the Registry Editor app.

  2. If there is a dialog box that asks if you want to make changes to your computer, select Yes. You may need to be an administrator to do so.

  3. Locate the subkey below in the hierarchy in the left pane depending on your Windows version:

    Windows version

    Subkey location

    32-bit

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

    64-bit

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

  4. While the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION subkey is selected, select File > Export.

Note: Exported registry keys are automatically saved as .reg files. This step backs up the subkey before you make any changes. You can import this file back into the registry later if your changes cause a problem.

  5. In the File name box, enter a file name to use to save the .reg file, then select Save.

Note: Since this registry file will hold the original registry items, use a file name that reminds you of the contents, such as a reference to the name of the subkey, FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION.

  6. Then with the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION subkey still selected, select Edit > New > DWORD to add a new DWORD value.

  7. Select the new DWORD value in the right pane and select Edit > Rename.

  8. Rename the value to excel.exe and press Enter.

  9. Select excel.exe (DWORD value you just renamed) and select Edit > Modify.

  10. Set the value to hexadecimal 0x2af8 (or decimal 11000) and select OK.

  11. Test your changes. If the changes cause issues, select the file that holds the backup of the original subkey data (made in steps 4 and 5) to return the subkey to its original state.

Troubleshoot plugin and add-in issues after changing subkey values

If changing registry subkey values causes issues with Excel plugins and add-ins, try this:

  1. Restart Excel.

  2. Login to Salesforce.

  3. Exit Excel.

  4. Delete the value in the registry again.
