Cannot start RTCSRV service after you uninstall Skype for Business Server 2015 Front End servers and Edge servers update

Symptoms

This issue occurs when you only uninstall the cumulative update 6.0.9319.55 (KB3061059) for Microsoft Skype for Business Server 2015 Front End servers and Edge servers. Or, it occurs when you uninstall the cumulative update 6.0.9319.55 for Microsoft Skype for Business Server 2015 Front End servers and Edge servers before you uninstall the cumulative update 6.0.9319.55 (KB3051958) for Microsoft Skype for Business Server 2015 core components in at least one of the following server roles:

• Skype for Business Server 2015 - Standard Edition Server

• Skype for Business Server 2015 - Enterprise Edition Server (Front End server and Back End server)

• Skype for Business Server 2015 - Edge server

Note RTCSRV.exe is a process for the Front End server service.

When this issue occurs, you receive the following events:

Workaround

To work around this issue, you must update the local RTC database to the RTM version. To do this, follow these steps:

If the cumulative update for Skype for Business Server 2015 core components is not uninstalled, follow these steps:

1. Run the Stop-CsWindowsService cmdlet.

2. Uninstall the cumulative update for Skype for Business Server 2015 core components. To do this, follow these steps:

   1. Open Control Panel, and then click Program.

   2. Click the Installed Updates link.

   3. Right-click Skype for Business Server 2015, Core Components (KB3051958) with version 6.0.9319.55. Then, click Uninstall in the right-click menu.

3. Close the existing PowerShell console sessions that have the Skype for Business PowerShell module loaded.

After you uninstall the cumulative update for Skype for Business Server 2015 core components, or if you have uninstalled this cumulative update before, follow these steps to enable the RTCSRV service to start:

1. Start a new PowerShell console session.

2. Run the following command:Import-Module SkypeForBusiness

3. Run the following command:Install-CsDatabase -Update -DatabaseType Registrar

4. Run the Start-CsWindowsService cmdlet.

To remove the cumulative updates for Skype for Business Server 2015, you must first uninstall the cumulative update for Skype for Business Server 2015 core components, and then uninstall the cumulative update for Skype for Business Server 2015 Front End servers and Edge servers.
