Description of the security update for Office 2016: October 9, 2018

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Office file. Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Office 2016 installed on the computer.

Improvements and fixes

This security update contains improvements and fixes for the following nonsecurity issues:
  • When you open and edit a non-recurring meeting through a Link to Outlook Item link in a meeting note, the non-recurring meeting becomes a recurring meeting.
  • This update improves the Irish Gaelic translation for OneNote 2016.
  • When you change the horizontal text of Unicode Ideographic Variation Sequence (IVS) characters to the vertical text in a workbook, Unicode IVS characters are not displayed correctly.
