Applies to: Surface Book 2Surface Go

What is USB-C?

With USB-C you can:

  • Transfer files and data
  • Show video from a computer to an external display
  • Use devices with your computer that are compatible with USB-C
  • Charge external devices

Which Surface devices have a USB-C port?

Surface Studio 2, Surface Book 2, Surface Go, and Surface Go with LTE Advanced have a USB-C port.

Can I charge my Surface with the USB-C port?

Surface Studio 2 has a USB-C port, but it does not receive inbound power through USB-C. You should use the power cord that came with your Surface Studio 2 for power.

You can usually charge your Surface with the USB-C port. However, we highly recommend using the power cable that came with your Surface because the charging speed with a USB-C cable can be very slow, depending on the power supply and cable you’re using.

What video adapters are available from Microsoft?

We have three different video adapters:

  • USB-C to HDMI
  • USB-C to DisplayPort
  • USB-C to VGA

Can I use USB-C with other USB devices?

It depends on what you want to do. You can use USB-C to transfer data to another type of USB port using the right adapter(s). However, displaying video between USB-C and another type of USB won’t work.
