FIX: MDS and/or LocalDB patch installation fails if you patch SQL Server with a next CU

Symptoms


Assume that you install Master Data Services (MDS) and/or LocalDB features in Microsoft SQL Server. When you patch SQL with a Cumulative Update (CU), this step succeeds and MDS/LocalDBare updated properly. However, you may notice that the step will be blocked if you patch SQL with a next CU.

Status


Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:
