Symptoms
Assume you have a table with an xml column and you create a primary XML index on the xml column. When you run a query that uses CROSS or OUTER APPLY against the table, an access violation may occur. Dropping the primary XML index will stop access violations from occurring, but may negatively affect performance.

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:
