FIX: FeaturePackChecker.exe crashes when you try to install CU for BizTalk Server 2016

When you install Cumulative Update (CU) for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2016, the installation fails because FeaturePackChecker.exe crashes if any unrelated .msi file is missing or corrupted.


MicrosoftBizTalk Server CU installer needs to identify whether the given machine hasclassic installation of the product or Feature Pack. In order to do that,a component of the installer which name is FeaturePackChecker, enumerates WindowsInstaller entries (known as MSI) on a given machine and reads MSI fileinformation to identify if Feature Pack is installed. When any MSI on themachine is missing or corrupted, an unhandled exception causes the crash.


Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. 


This problem is fixed in the following cumulative update for BizTalk Server:


To work around this issue, use one of the following methods: 
  • Replaceback the cached Windows installer .msi files that were deleted.
  • Reinstallmissing .msi files.
