KB4551220 - FIX: Assertion error occurs when you run resumable index build statement in SQL Server

Applies to: SQL Server 2017 DeveloperSQL Server 2017 EnterpriseSQL Server 2017 Enterprise Core

Assume that you run an ALTER INDEX rebuild command that has the RESUMABLE=ON option in Microsoft SQL Server. If this is a filteredindex that includes a condition such as column IS NULL, the operation may fail and return anassertion error. Additionally, a crash dump file may be generated.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:
Note: Depending on indexstructure and filtered index condition, the SQL Server version cannot safelycomplete resumable index build. After the CU is installed, instead ofgenerating an assertion and dump, the SQL Server gracefully terminates theoperation and returns a new error code 10675.
"Internal Query Processor Error: The query processorcould not produce a query plan. The RESUMABLE option is not supported for thisindex build. Remove the RESUMABLE option and rerun the statement."
