With built-in Wi-Fi, you can connect your Surface to a Wi-Fi network and browse the internet, get apps from Microsoft Store, send email, access other computers and devices on your network, and much more:

Connect to a Wi-Fi network

For info about connecting your Surface to a Wi-Fi network, see Connect to a Wi-Fi network in Windows.

For Surface Duo, see Connect to Wi-Fi on Surface Duo.

Connect to a cellular network

If your Surface has a SIM card slot or a built-in eSIM, you can also connect to a cellular network. For more info, see Set up the LTE connection on your Surface.

If you have problems connecting to a cellular network, see Can't connect to cellular data on Surface to try to fix things.

Disconnect from a Wi-Fi network

  1. Select Network  on the right side of the taskbar.

  2. Select Manage Wi-Fi connections (>) next to the network that you're connected to.

  3. Select Disconnect.

Forget a wireless network

You can choose to forget a wireless network so it no longer appears in your list of networks. Here’s how:

  1. Select Start , then select Settings.

  2. In Settings, select Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.

  3. In the list of networks that appears under Known networks, select the network you want to forget, then select Forget.

Turn airplane mode on or off

If you’re traveling on an airplane or if you don’t need to use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth® devices for a while, you can turn on airplane mode. This setting turns off all wireless radios and can help make your battery last a little longer. For info about how to turn airplane mode on or off, see Turn airplane mode on or off.
