Symptoms

When remote admin connections are enabled and IPV6 is disabled on the host in Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or 2017 on Linux, you notice that SQL Server tries to listen on IPV6 but does not start.

DateTime Server      Error: 26024, Severity: 16, State: 1.

DateTime Server      Server failed to listen on 'any' <ipv6> 1434. Error: 0x2742. To proceed, notify your system administrator.

DateTime Server      Dedicated admin connection support was not started because of error 0x2742, status code: 0x1. This error typically indicates a socket-based error, such as a port already in use.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
