Outlook crashes upon start due to a corrupted view


Microsoft Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2010 crashes upon start.

If you then review the events in the Application log you find any of the following crash signatures for Event ID 1000.

This issue may occur as the result of a corrupted view in the affected mailbox.


To resolve this issue, run the /cleanviews switch by following these steps.

Note This will clear all custom views from the affected mailbox. All custom views must be recreated.

  1. Exit Outlook.
  2. Open a Run dialog box. To do this, use one of the following procedures, as appropriate for your version of Windows.

    • Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8: Press Windows Key + R.
    • Windows 7: Click Start, and then click Run.

  3. In the Run dialog box, type the following, and then press OK..

    Outlook.exe /Cleanviews

You can following these steps to review the Application log: 

  1. In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Event Viewer.
  3. In the navigation pane, select Application under Windows Logs.
  4. In the Actions pane, click Filter Current Log.
  5. In the Filter Current Log dialog box, enter 1000 (as shown in the following figure) and then click OK.
