- You have an NTFS volume that is flagged as dirty in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. For example, you receive the following error message for the volume:There's a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it.
- You run the Check Disk Tool (CHKDSK) to fix the drive. However, no issues are found.
- Immediately after CHKDSK is finished, the volume is reported as "Clean."
- You restart the system. Or, you unmount and then remount the volume.
In this scenario, the volume is reported as "Online Scan Needed," and Windows runs CHKDSK again.
Note This problem occurs every time that you restart the system or unmount and then remount the volume.
