Symptoms

Assume that you use third-party Active Directory providers to authenticate to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2017. When the cache that holds your Kerberos credentials is updated, SQL Server crashes. Additionally, the result of the following command indicates that a core dump occurred in SQL Server:

sudo systemctl status mssql-server


Additionally, a core dump file is generated at /var/opt/mssql/log/.

Resolution

This problem is fixed in the following update for SQL Server:

Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2017
