Symptoms

You have a large solution that is added to source control in Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2008. In this situation, it takes a long time to add a new project to the solution.

Cause

This problem occurs because the QueryItemsExtendedLocal SQL stored procedure handles some large queries inefficiently in the data tier of Visual Studio TFS 2008.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

You must have Team Foundation Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Team Explorer 2008 SP1 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply the hotfix if no affected file is being used.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
